Imagine memorial for Beatle John Lennon, The Dakota and Strawberry Fields in New York.

  1. Today was the day I finally got to see the  large memorial to Lennon, Imagine, on the tip of Strawberry Fields in Central Park, New York.  The visit to the Dakota and the memorial was something I have wanted to do since Yoko had established this area in John’s memory. A very emotional experience.

The Strawberry Fields plaque placed in stone with all the countries names which endorsed this portion of Central Park as a Peace Park. There are over 100 names of those countries, with Canada being one of them.

Walking up to Imagine memorial plaques.

Below is the Imagine memorial.

A small corner Strawberry Fields, Central Park, New York.

Security guard who showed us where John Lennon life was taken on that night almost 39 years ago.  He also shared that John and Yoko’s apartment is on the 7th floor and has white shutters. He told me Yoko still lives there.

This is the gate which John Lennon walked thru almost 39 years ago just before he was shot. Very emotional experience to see this. Such a beautiful place with such tragic memories.

This railing and white shutters designate the 7th floor where Yoko Ono still lives and where she and John Lennon shared their lives at the time he left us.  Below is that side of the Dakota.

It Was 50 Years Ago

It was 50 years ago this fall that four young guys got together to start a band. We met every day in my two cousins basement where all our gear was set up and we stayed there for the day. Myles and I travelled over from Waverly to Sackville  and lived in my dad’s lake cottage all that winter. It was dam cold. Here is one of our first rehearsals. It had no sound so I added one of own tunes that talks of that time as I experienced it.

This tune started as a children’s song.

A few years ago I was going thru a period of writing tunes where there were a friend’s children present in the next room. This song got started under their influence and then switched at some later point to a song that was autobiographical with some spiritual overtones. Long way from a children’s tune but as we all know kids are deeper than we think. The chorus is pretty close to the kids version thus the video. Garret Mason on electric guitar, the late Charles Phillips on bass , Ansley Jardine on the kit, and I am on vocals’ acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocal. Tune is from my solo cd Same Old Feeling.

Downs Really Up 2001

I met Peter Henry in 2001 and he asked if I would help write a song about the birth of his son Jonathan. Jonathan had been born with Down syndrome and Peter had a challenge when he became aware of this. This is the story of one man’s acceptance, love and dedication to his son and family. Written in the hope of supporting  Special Olympics thru this recording.

Bag Lady . Written by Jerry Rideout and myself.

A tune from Jeannie Beks CD ” More Than My Share”. I was reminded of this tune by Myles Goodwyn’s charity work he has started with the street people here in Halifax and Fredericton. A fine thing he has started. https://youtu.be/LklfQwH2s30photo-47

Death The Musical

In 1998 I worked with Dawn Harwood-Jones , Malcolm P. Callaway and Jan Morrison on Death The Musical for Chester Playhouse . We went on to record the music and do a run at Neptune Theatre in Halifax and a French version in Montreal . Here is one of the tunes off the CD called Good Time  sung by the amazing Cory Tetford .
